A weekly or monthly scooter rental in Tulum is the cheapest way to have your own wheels, and it works a little differently from a one-day hire.

How Long-Term Scooter Rental Prices Work in Tulum
Scooter rental in Tulum is priced in steps: the longer you rent, the less you pay per day. On our scooter rental page the tiers look like this:
- 1 day — the highest per-day rate
- 2 days and 3–6 days — each a step cheaper
- 7+ days — the weekly rate, where most holiday riders land
- 30+ days — the monthly rate
- 45+ days — our lowest rate, less than half the one-day price per day

What's Included in a Weekly or Monthly Scooter Rental
A long-term rental includes exactly the same things as a one-day rental. With us that means:
- A 2022-or-newer automatic scooter with under-seat storage and a rear trunk
- Two helmets (you and a passenger)
- Insurance: material damage, medical expenses, liability, roadside assistance and legal support
- GPS tracking on the scooter
- No deposit — and we never keep your passport

Paperwork for a Long-Term Scooter Rental in Tulum
Nothing extra. You need a valid, full driver's licence (your home licence is fine; an International Driving Permit helps at police checkpoints), a photo ID, and a signed rental agreement. Fuel
Scooters are very economical — a full tank covers days of town riding. There are fuel stations on the main avenue (Avenida Tulum) and on the road toward the beach. Pay attention to the attendant setting the pump to zero, and pay in pesos if you can.
Parking
Park where other scooters park, never in front of a driveway or on a yellow curb. In Aldea Zama, La Veleta and Region 15 most condos have secure parking — ask your host. On the Hotel Zone beach road, use the paid lots or the parking your beach club points you to. Always lock the steering and take the key.
Servicing and breakdowns
On a multi-week rental, the scooter still belongs to us, and so does its maintenance. We arrange routine checks — oil, tyres, brakes — around your schedule. If you get a flat or it won't start, message us on WhatsApp and roadside assistance is included. Please don't take it to a roadside workshop yourself; we can't guarantee the parts, and it can complicate your insurance.
Rain season
If your stay runs through the wetter months, expect short, heavy afternoon downpours and big puddles in La Veleta and Region 15. Wait out a storm (they rarely last long), ride slower on wet roads, and keep a rain poncho in the trunk. Our Tulum scooter road rules post covers riding safely in town.
Where a Long-Term Scooter Can — and Can't — Take You
A scooter is perfect for everyday Tulum life: Tulum Pueblo, La Veleta, Aldea Zama, Region 15, the Hotel Zone beach road, the Tulum Ruins, and cenotes within about 10 km on local roads. That covers groceries, co-working, gyms, the beach and dinner — most of a long stay.
What a scooter can't do is the highway. Scooters are not permitted on Mexican federal highways, and Playa del Carmen (~65 km), Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Cancun (~130 km), Bacalar (~220 km), Cobá, Valladolid and Chichén Itzá are all reached on Highway 307 or other carreteras. For those days, keep your scooter parked at home and add a car rental in Tulum for the trip. Many of our long-stay guests do exactly that: a scooter for the month, plus a car for one or two day trips.

Weekly Scooter Rental vs Buying a Scooter in Tulum
Long-stayers sometimes ask whether it's cheaper to buy a used scooter. For stays under a few months, rarely. Buying means paying cash up front, arranging Mexican plates, registration and insurance yourself, handling every repair, and then selling it before you leave. A monthly rental includes insurance, roadside help and servicing, and you just hand the keys back. If you're staying six months or more, it's worth doing the maths — but for most visitors, renting wins.
Extending or Shortening a Long Rental
Plans change — especially on long stays. If you want to keep the scooter longer, message us before your return date and we'll extend it (subject to availability, so earlier is better). Extending often moves you into a cheaper tier. Returning early is also something to discuss with us up front; tell us as soon as your dates change.

Can I ride a long-term rental scooter to Playa del Carmen or Cancun?
